Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an additional layer of security used when logging into the platform, in addition to your password. This means that by activating this protection, you will need to enter your username, your usual password, and also provide another extra piece of information (TOTP), which has the peculiarity of changing every minute to prevent someone from stealing it, ensuring that only you have access.
This additional piece of information is typically known as a Token and in most implementations can be obtained through a text message, an email, or by using an application capable of generating that unique time-based password. This application automatically generates a very simple authentication code that changes after a certain period of time. These applications can be downloaded to your phone for free and are used to protect multiple services with the same system (Instagram, Gmail, Facebook, Linkedin, etc). Although there is a wide variety of applications, we recommend using the most well-known ones that meet the necessary standards and protections such as Google Authenticator or Authy.
To set up 2FA on our platform, follow these steps:
1) If you haven’t installed it yet, download a TOTP application of your choice to your phone. If you already have it, you can proceed directly to step number 2.
2) Log in to our platform as you normally do and then, in the upper right corner, click on your profile where your username appears. Finally, press “Security Settings”.
3) In the “Two-factor authentication” section, click on “Activate authentication”.
4) By activating authentication, a QR code will be generated that you must scan with the application you downloaded on your mobile device in step number 1. After scanning, the application will show you a six-digit PIN that you must enter on the platform where it says “Enter the PIN generated in the app.” and press “Authenticate User”.
5) If the process completed successfully, you will see on the platform that the option is activated. From now on, when you log in, in addition to providing your username and password, you will need to enter the six-digit PIN from your mobile application to successfully log in.
☝TIP: Remember that this PIN or code is for one-time use, so when you log in again, you will need to generate a new one.
